The WARN is a private wireless broadband data network enhancing interoperability communication between the District and its surrounding public safety agencies by supporting various mobile video and broadband data applications and data transfer. The District turned to Televate to engineer, implement and manage the WARN. Televate designed the WARN to support various data applications including real time video streaming, GIS file transfer, mobile access to national databases, and other wide area broadband data applications. These crucial communications applications are designed to assist the District during its joint tactical missions as well as various diplomatic, public, and mission critical operations.
In 2006 WARN won the prestigious International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Leadership in Technology Award. In addition, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) chose the WARN to showcase the effectiveness of sharing spectrum between local, federal, and state agencies. The WARN is the first network of its kind in the nation and serves as an operational example of broadband wireless options available from public safety spectrum in the 700 MHz band.
In 2007, Televate was awarded a contract to continue providing the District with engineering services to the WARN and implementing new IP multimedia services to the network.
Televate strongly supports the development of broadband data networks for the improvement of public safety and first responder capabilities within the 700 MHz band and in other public safety and non-public safety spectrum.
